The Band Collar Shirt Care Guide

April 25, 2023

Now you’ve made the jump into minimal collar territory with one or several of our Band Collars, here’s how to keep the looking good for a while.

Step 1 : Washing

Whether you plumped for the oxford, poplin or linen version, our care guidelines are the same. Pop your Band Collar Shirt inside out and wash with similar colours on a 30°C programme with a moderate spin (600rpm maximum), and you're hot to trot.

If you want to do things right, a laundry net’s always a good idea. Once inside, your shirt will be spared a roughing-up from the drum, as well as encounters with spare change, receipts and whatever else found its way into the machine.

PS: Unbutton the collar and cuffs in order to avoid stressing the fabric at the seams.

Step 2 : Drying

We can't say it often enough, stay away from the tumble dryer! Let your Band Collar Shirt hang on a large wooden hanger for a few hours, that should do the trick, and it’ll get rid of most of the post-wash creases into the bargain.

Avoid direct sunlight which could fade the colours. All you need is a well-ventilated area, ideally outdoors.

Step 3 : Ironing

Spoiler: do step 2 right and you’ll get a good head start on this 3rd step. If you’re a tidy, ironed-shirt kind of guy, a few gentle presses will do the job. Just watch out for a few things:

  • lace a layer of fabric between your shirt and the iron to avoid scorching the seams or marking your shirt.
  • Use demineralised water, rather than regular tap water.
  • Don’t go over 110°c when ironing the oxford and poplin versions. You can push the dial to 150°c for the linen shirt, if you feel like going crazy.

Thanks!
