These Raw Boots are clearly among the toughest we made. But they enjoy a little TLC here and there. Here's how to pamper them so they stay with you until your grandchildren ask you to pass them on to them.
Day to day care
Let's start with two basic but highly effective tips:
- Avoid wearing them for days on end. Leather, like a a lot of other things, needs to breathe. Alternate to make them last that much longer.
- Invest in a pair of shoe trees, cedar ones if possible. These little pieces of wood will maintain their original shape and absorb moisture. It's the kind of gizmo you'll never regret buying, unlike those fluorescent orange trousers you picked up at the market last summer.
When it's time to clean
Here's a simple but effective routine:
- Brush dry with a soft bristle brush. Just a quick wipe to remove the dust before moving on to the next step.
- Then run an old toothbrush (dry) over the welt. It's that little edge that gives the Goodyear assembly its charm, so you might as well keep it clean, don't you think?
- And finally, a few sprays of waterproofing. It maintains the colour and protects the leather. All in a matter of seconds.
The little extra that makes all the difference
The great thing about Goodyear assembly is that when the soles start to give up the ghost (which will take a very long time, we assure you), any good shoemaker will be able to resole them. Your Boots can last you for decades with a little butt lift.
Special note on how the colours will evolve over time
Regarding the Black Klondike, don't panic if you see brown or greenish shades appear over time. It's normal, its deeper nature is just revealing itself. Like a good whisky that develops its aromas, your Boots will improve and evolve with age.
Thanks!
