"Nice sweatshirt, could we have more colours?”

Sure thing, 3 punchy new colours for you.

How sweatshirts have let you down in the past:

1

The fabric was of poor quality

2

The fit was bad

3

They lost their shape after a few spins

4

The colours don’t go the distance

The only one that can bear you day in, day out

ALL-ROUND COMFORT

Invented in the 1920s, the sweatshirt was originally a sports garment. A century on, a quick glance around at what people are wearing will tell you that things have changed just a little bit to say the least. At Asphalte, we think that this piece should be one of the easiest things to wear in your wardrobe, and it's with this in mind that we've designed our Perfect Sweatshirt. We've said it before and we'll say it again: There’s no better jumper for your day-to-day.

BOM DIA, BON SWEATSHIRT

The Perfect Sweatshirt’s made by the jersey maestros at EIGUI, in Portugal. They’ve done the leg work, so you can enjoy the results. The cut’s straight with slightly narrowed side seams to create a sharp, almost tailored look. That little design tweak also keeps it from riding up or looking too boxy, which can be a worry with those heavier-weight vintage-inspired sweatshirts. This one'll sit nicely on the waist, and stay there.

A 4-SEASON SWEATSHIRT

We opted for 380g/m2 fabric, sturdier than the market average (around 350g/m2), without being too heavy for the warmer months. A year-round staple, ready for anything, mid-summer heatwave aside.

Cotton’s the key

To make a truly great sweater, you need top-notch cotton like our 100% organic cotton. It’s responsibly sourced so as well as being kind to your skin, it's also kind to the planet, and our partner producers with no nasties involved. Growing organic cotton takes less water than conventional cotton, no chemicals or toxins are used and the fibres are all the better for it, lasting longer than otherwise.

SERIOUS ABOUT STITCHING

To keep that sturdy Sweatshirt looking great we opted for double topstitching. This age-old trick means the seams will be able to withstand more wear and tear, without giving way. If you want to go for that LA bodybuilder look, you’ll have to cut the sleeves off. They won’t be going anywhere on their own.

RAGLANS TO RICHES

You might be looking at this sweatshirt and wondering why it’s giving you a nice 1950s icon feel. What is it that makes it look more of a classic all-rounder and less of a I’m actually off to do exercise in this? Well, that’ll be the raglan sleeves. These run from under the arms and across to the collar. And they don’t just look good, they also allow better freedom of movement.

PROTECT YA NECK… AND WRISTS

A reliable crew neck collar is the backbone, or maybe collarbone, of a well-made sweatshirt. Ours is made with 10% elastane, just enough to keep it cosy on your neck, without being too clingy. We used the same collar construction that works so well on our much-loved T-Shirts and added the same chunky, ribbed organic cotton to the waist and the cuffs.

YOU GOTTA ROLL WITH IT

Are you itching to read about dyeing techniques today? Probably not, so we’ll keep it brief: when you dye fabric in rolls — before it’s cut to make a garment — the colour runs less. It’s called roll dyeing - and it’s the process we used here to ensure your sweater stays vibrant for longer.

ONE SWEAT TO RULE THEM ALL

You’ve probably got the gist by now, but let’s do a quick recap: 100% organic cotton. A sturdy weight, ideal for year-round wear. Built with comfort and ease of movement in mind, by expert jersey wizards. Raglan sleeves and carefully observed detailing for a nice vintage feel. Made to last. And now available in extra colours. A deep Indigo Blue, a fresh-looking Sky Blue and a vintage Washed Red. What’s not to like?
