Tee’d up for summer

Some people make the mistake of thinking all tees are made for warm weather. We don’t. When it comes to high-summer heat, you’ll be wanting a seriously breezy tee, not just any old short-sleeved-something. After the usual trial and error in the Asphalte lab, we cracked the formula for the perfect Light Tee fabric: an organic 70/30 cotton-linen blend. This ratio assures optimal comfort and lightness, combined with linen’s famed absorbency. We had the weaving wizards at Anbievolution, Portugal, produce it for us.

Light weight, not a lightweight

We wanted a light tee that would do the job for you this summer, and the next. And the next. Too many summer-ready tees are flimsy - we’ve all seen them, gaping, off-centre necks and wrung-out hems. The Light T-Shirt’s a heavyweight when it comes to durability, weighing in at 160g/m2. When you understand how fabric works, light weight doesn’t have to mean throwaway.

No sheer on show

David Bowie could pull off a sheer short sleeve, but he was something of a rarity. Most people would rather their summer tee left something to the imagination. That’s why we opted for a tight jersey knit. Nothing transparent about this top, except for its traceability - which you can read all about below.

If it ain’t broke…

We spent years and years getting the cut of our celebrated Ultimate T-Shirt just right, and as you know by now, we aren’t into needless waste. So, we kept that painstakingly perfected, classic shape for the Light T-Shirt. It’s a slightly tailored, straight cut with sleeves that end mid-bicep. Far from clingy, it’s no slouch either.

Don’t put your neck out

We reckon if you wanted one of those weird, wobbly, scoop-necked tees, you’d buy one. So we designed the Light Tee’s neckline to stay just the way it is. We sandwiched the collar in between two layers of 1x1 ribbing, resulting in a three-layered, ultra-tough collar that’s locked in place with double topstitching. It’s a crew neck now, and it’ll still be a crew neck in a few summers’ time.

Summer colour that’ll last

Fade-outs work great in film, less well with clothes. We went to the trouble of selecting some classic but punchy summer colours for the Light T-Shirt, and we weren’t going to let them simply fade away. We had the cotton-linen blend roll dyed, which makes for award-winning colour fastness. No need to lurk in the shadows in this tee, it’s ready for the sun.

Ship-shape and anywhere fashion

Thanks to the solid collar and dense knit that’s key to any jersey material, this summer tee won’t be doing a runner on you. It won’t be melting away either. Or coming apart at the seams. Unlike most of the airy t-shirts out there, this one combines lightness with serious staying power.

All thrills, no pills

A lot of those airier fabrics made for summer are extra susceptible to pilling - the well-turned-out man’s mortal enemy. Bobbles can ruin a great tee’s looks in a flash, so we took steps to keep them at bay, adding an anti-pilling enzyme finish to the material. Wear it, walk in it, roll gaily down daisy-strewn hillsides in it… and relax. Your Light T-Shirt’s as pill-resistant as a light tee can be.

Spot-on shape meets summer-ready material

In some ways, it was a simple proposition: take the tried and tested Ultimate T-Shirt and make it hot-weather-ready… But nothing’s ever easy when you want the best. Finding the ideal fabric blend and the people to make it was only part of the task. A tight jersey knit, reinforced collar, anti-pilling enzymes, and roll-dyed classic summer colours — all of these make the Light T-Shirt your summer go-to to-be.
